Asena Akan Contempo “AŞIK”
Musician, composer, and songwriter Asena Akan began her musical studies at the age of five with classical violin at Istanbul Municipal Conservatory and continued her education at the part-time Opera Department of the Istanbul State Conservatory, graduating in 1998. She later studied jazz vocals and theory, and also played bass guitar and piano. Over the past decade, Akan has released numerous albums and singles featuring her own lyrics and music. In 2023, she released Duy Sesimi (Hear My Voice), a project album highlighting gender equality, as part of the CultureCIVIC: Culture and Arts Support Program. She also continues to work with individuals and groups of varying backgrounds, utilizing the healing and transformative power of music. She is the coordinator of the Music Therapy Education Program at Bahçeşehir University Continuing Education Center (SEM) and will perform at the 34th Akbank Jazz Festival on October 4 at Akbank Sanat.
